Junior Courses

The Branch, via the Trouting Syndicate, runs a minimum of two Junior Courses per season.   These "junior days" usually from 14:00 to 16:00 have a qualified instructor in attendance to provide casting demonstrations, basic safety instruction and to provide general oversight.   In addition, a number of Branch volunteer helpers, all of whom have been vetted via the Criminal Records Bureau process, are also in attendance to provide individual help.

We also provide some tuition in entomology and general awareness of environment, particularly the need to respect it and to exercise care when enjoying the countryside.

Schools

Over the past few years, we have had as our guests, again at our Syndicate waters, the pupils and their teachers, from the Eastbourne Technology College.  The day-long visits again combine fun in fishing with the more serious aspects of caring for the environment.

Adult Days

Similar in content and structure to the Junior Days, the Branch also conducts at least two "Mature Beginner" days during the season.   The sessions, however, are somewhat longer, usually starting at 16:00 and finishing at dusk, for those who are still determined to catch a fish.

We have also, over the past couple of seasons, set aside a day solely for Ladies to come and try their hand (usually more successfully than their male counterparts).   Again, qualified demonstration and instruction is provided.

Fly Casting Demonstrations

The Branch has for many years provided a stand at the South of England Shows and we are now exploring alternative venues; we have staged a strong presence at the Michelham Priory Game and Country Fair since 2005.   Our stand gives the general public the opportunity to find out  what we are about and the opportunity to join the S&TA.    Part of that "getting to know" is a series of casting demonstrations and the offer to "have-a-go".   We have also attended other Fairs and we look to provide a similar presence at Game and Country style Fairs within the county.
