A Busy Branch Summer

The branch attended the Michelham Priory Game and Country Fair on the 11th and 12th July. After some unsettled weather on the Saturday, keeping the number of people in attendance relatively low, the Sunday was much busier with a steady stream of people wanting to improve their fly fishing skills. Over the 2 days the branch was able to teach over 100 people, hold 2 main ring casting demonstrations and give away a brand new Greys GRXi fishing rod in a free raffle to those who ‘had a go’ at fly casting. Our thanks go to the Greys Fishing Tackle Company for their kind sponsorship of our events this year, more details of their products can be found here: www.greysfishing.com

The branch attended the Countryside Awareness Day on Thursday 16th July held by the South of England Agricultural Society at their showground at Ardingly. Around 2500 local primary school children, within the ages of 8 and 10 years old, had been invited to sample what the countryside had to offer. Fly casting was definitely one of the most popular activities and so the 6 instructor strong team was worked hard from 9:30 to 14:30 teaching in excess of 500 children! If any juniors would like the opportunity to learn more about fly fishing then please see our ‘Branch Courses’ page.

The branch held an Adult evening course on Monday 20th July from 16:00 'til dusk at their syndicate lakes near Horsted Keynes. The 12 students of mixed abilities and experiences were treated to a casting demonstration from the instructors before being given the chance to try it themselves with supervision. The group progressed well and after an hour were allowed to tie on some flies and start trying to locate some fish. Montanas and Damsel flies were the order of the day with some nicely conditioned plate sized Rainbows being caught late in the session. For more details of upcoming adult courses for beginners and improvers please see our Branch Programme.
